NOTES: |
This
vintage raised seam playground ball was made by Spalding
and was more common during the 1920s-1930's. The raised seams made the
ball more durable for use in the playground, and would
last longer than the stitched balls. Like in the movie
"Sandlot", the stitches would rip after
continued use and the cover would come off. If you
played a lot of ball when you were a kid you must have
at one time had the cover come off and had to tape the
ball up with electrical tape. Pictured below left from a
1932 sports catalog is the Champion Playground ball, and
on the right a Wilson Ball that sold for $1.13 in 1939.
The Wilson Playground ball also came in 14 inches and
sold for $1.13
