This is a Pepper Martin Goldsmith No. 100 Special League
baseball bat. This logo "-A-
Gold Smith
Product" dates the bat to approximately 1936 to 1943
before the company changed their name to "MacGregor
Goldsmith" The earlier bats had the ornate Goldsmith cross
logo as the center brand, that was used until about 1932
and some bats made during the mid 1930s have both the
Gold
Smith style logo pictured above and the older cross
logo.(pictured below).
In
1936 Goldsmith purchased the well-known MacGregor Golf
Company in an effort to expand their product line and
market share. Around 1944 Goldsmith added the MacGregor
name to their products and became known as "MacGregor
Goldsmith" an attempt to trade on the prestigious image
the MacGregor company had earned. Finally, in 1952 the
Goldsmith name was dropped entirely and the company was
simply called MacGregor.
