This
is a Circa 1920 era, 1 inch web fielder's glove with a
Wreath style button on the back strap. The manufacture of
the glove is suspected to be the Morrison-Ricker Mfg
company, Grinnell Gloves. The wreath Button has been trace
to be used by Grinnell Gloves, but this style button
cannot be used, to positively identify the maker of a
glove.
Many glove companies outsourced this wreath
style button and there were several generic style buttons
that might have been used on any number of different
gloves for different companies, including buttons
picturing a train and the airplane button pictured below.
Most of these buttons are from the depression-era and some
of these designs were actually buttons made for clothing
that were being repurposed during tough times.
The
Morrison-Ricker Mfg company, Grinnell Gloves, most famous
for their Driving Gloves, manufactured all styles of
gloves, in addition to a line of baseball gloves. Athletic
goods such as baseball gloves were not their standard
production item but were only made in slack times at the
factory.
This all leads me to believe that the
glove was made by Grinnell, but without seeing the cloth
patch on the back strap, which is to worn to identify, the
manufacture of this glove remains unknown.
