is a reproduction of a 1930s
Babe Ruth Boys Club Member, Esso Gasoline
Promotion Pin. The original pins where given out by Esso
Stations when you joined the Babe Ruth Boys Club. Babe
Ruth did a number of promotions for Esso which included
the Esso Sponsored Boys club. Pictured at the bottom is a promotion for a
contest to win a Babe Ruth Home Run Fielders Glove, a personally
signed Baseball, or a trip to Babe Ruth spring training
Camp. Pictured on the coupon is this Charter member Pin.
Below left is the original pin. Notice that the writing
is bold on the original pin as compared to the
reproduction pin below right. The reproduction pin also
has less detail on the "baseball stitching"
The back of this pin is also made to look vintage as if
the pin itself was wielded on.
The reproduction pin was made as a fantasy piece, but is
being sold as original on eBay. Buyer
Beware! The original pin should sell for
about $150.+ but Most collectors that know about the
repro's stay away from the auctions keeping the price
down. The repro's sell for $25. -$50. to unsuspecting
buyers.
