This
is a 1946 spring training roster and Itinerary. This program has historic significance
as sporting the original concept of the New York
Yankees Top hat logo. Larry MacPhail co-owner of the
New York Yankees
commissioned sports artist Lon Keller to create a
"trademark Logo" for the Yankees.
Lon came up with the Top hat on top of the "K"
and Yankees in script logo seen on this cover. MacPhail not completely satisfied then asked Lon Keller to refine the logo. Lon sat down and put a baseball around the Yankees, made the "K" into a bat, and put the top hat on
top of the "K" Creating the Yankees logo That
is still used today.
Artist Lon Keller provided artwork
for a number of pro sports teams and events including
the New York Yankees but he is most recognized for
designing the New York Yankee's emblem.

"The Yankee Emblem: Best Known in Sports" Pictures
to the right is supposed to be the first appearance of
the Yankee emblem on the 1947 spring training roster and
Itinerary. This information as reported by the Yankees
scorecard might be wrong as for every 1946 scorecard I
have ever seen sports the Logo?
