This
is a 1953 World Series Artist Proof Ticket Sheet. The New York Yankees
(4) beat the Brooklyn Dodgers (2) in this
historic World Series, marking the first time, and still
the only time that a baseball team has won five
consecutive world championships. The titles came in
Casey Stengel's first five years as a manager.
Artist
proof Ticket sheets can be identified by not having seat number
printed.
Games 1, 2, and 6 all
played at Yankee Stadium. Never being played the
7th
game ticket shown below is a Phantom ticket. A Phantom ticket is
produced in anticipation of a team making the playoffs,
or World Series But not used when the team failed to
make it or not played because of the series ending
early.
The
top ticket on this sheet is a Game X ticket. Game X tickets were tickets that were printed for MLB VIP's in advance of the other tickets because they needed to be mailed out far in advance of the regular tickets. The ticket owner would be notified by MLB later as to which game it would be good at.
