NOTES:

This ticket stub is from Game 1 of the 1921 World Series, between the New York Giants, and the New York Yankees. It was the first appearance in the World Series for the Yankees, and for New York the first ever "Subway Series." In 1921, two years before Yankee Stadium was built, the Yankees shared the Polo Grounds with the Giants. The entire 1921 World Series was played at the Polo Grounds. It was the first time ever in World Series history. It happened for a second time when the two teams met again the following year, at the Polo grounds, and in 1944 the Cardinals and the Browns played the entire series at St. Louis' Sportsman's Park.

Game 1 the Giants were the home team as they were in every other game in this eight game series. The Series was the last of the experimental best of nine series, which the Giants won, five games to three. Pale green/beige, Nat'l League vs American League tickets were printed for the home team Giants, and orange/yellow, American League vs Nat'l League tickets were printed for the home team Yankees. A "War Tax" was added to the price of the tickets. This was a tax imposed by the U.S. federal government to offset the cost of World War I. The tickets were printed by the M.B. Brown ptg. & bdg. co. N.Y. It was also the first World Series to be broadcast on the radio.
