Great Western Athletic Goods of
Chicago was primarily a uniform
manufacturer that operated out of
Chicago, Illinois. Thomas E. Wilson &
Co. Athletic Goods wanting to establish
a niche in the uniform market, and
merged with Great Western in 1925. The
company was renamed Wilson-Western
Sporting Goods. Then in 1931, changed
to the Wilson Sporting Goods Co. Wilson
also produced Great Western branded
baseball equipment for the GW catalog.
The 1938 Great Western Athletic Goods
catalog features 47 pages of baseball
equipment, uniforms and clothing,
including; 3 pages of baseballs, 17
pages of baseball gloves & mitts,
baseball masks, 2 pages of baseball
bats, 5 pages of baseball uniforms, 4
pages of softballs, playground balls, 8
pages of softball gloves, mitts, bats,
uniforms, Women's softball clothing,
warm-up clothing and athletic sundries.
