This Seventh Army Air Force team road
uniform is what Staff Sergeant Joe
DiMaggio would have worn in 1944.
DiMaggio and other major league players
were transferred to Hawaii in the
Spring of 1944. Big names like; Joe
Gordon, Pee Wee Reese and Red Ruffing,
along with Joe, were split into
different teams such as the; Camp
Catlin Gators, Aiea Naval Barracks
Maroons, Pearl Harbor Marines, and two
teams composed of black servicemen:
Atkinson Athletic Club and the Red Sox.
The Army 7th Air Force baseball team was led by New york Yankees star Joe
DiMaggio. Additions to the lineup
included major leaguers; Walt Judnich
(St. Louis Browns), Dario Lodigiani
(Washington Senators), Mike McCormick
(Cincinnati Reds), Jerry Priddy
(Washington Senators) and future Major
Leaguer, Ferris Fain of the PCL, San
Francisco Seals. This uniform features
the uniform number 7 on the back that
Ferris Fain wore, but it can't be
attributed to Fain at this time.
Further research is being done.
This 7th AAF grey with blue trim Road jersey features a Sun-Collar, and
the Seventh Army Air Force uniform
patch on the sleeve. The team's home
jersey was a dark-Kelly Green, with
white sleeves and trim. The Lowe and
Campbell size 38 uniform tag is one of
a few that date to the period.
