The Seattle
Pilots souvenir pennants featuring the
official MLB logo were produced late in
1969 for the 1970 season. The Seattle
Pilots was an American League expansion
team, added in 1969. Ballpark,
ownership, and financial problems
forced the team to relocated to
Milwaukee, a decision made 6 days
before the start of the 1970 season.
Now the Milwaukee Brewers franchise.
In 1969, Major League Baseball, introduced the official MLB logo which was to be placed on all
licensed products, and souvenirs,
thereafter. Schedules, tickets,
programs, and souvenirs are produced
well in advanced to be ready for the
start of the season. World Series
Souvenirs, and Stadium souvenirs made
later in 1969 would bear the MLB logo.
Most of the Stadium souvenirs would
have been made for the following
season.
The Seattle Pilots souvenir pennants
with the MLB logo were stocked for the
1970 season, which never came. There
are hoards of these pennants that were
never sold, and are extremely common. The Original pennants without the MLB logo, made in 1968 for the 1969
season, are very rare. The first
pennant was made before the Pilots
official logo was unveiled.
