The 1979 Wiffle Ball vending box was used
by the retailer to display 12
Regulation Baseball Size Wiffle Balls.
(the Wiffle balls also came in Softball
& Junior Sizes) Each one of the Wiffle
balls came in a box that had "Free
Baseball Discs." There were 12
different boxes with 60 cards. Five
players printed on each box, three
facing out and two facing in. There
were 14 Wiffle bat & ball sleeves with
two players on each, that make up the
other 28 player discs, for a total set
of 88 Hand Cut player discs. The
baseball discs are licensed by the MLBPA
- Major League Baseball Players
Association MLB.
The top of the red box folds up, and with the bottom tab tucked into the
back, the Thurman Munson Sports
Spectacular die cut pop out. The Die
Cut reads, "SPORTS SPACTACULAR"
at the top centered with a black &
white head shot of Thurman Munson. To
the left reads "THURMAN MUNSON
RECOMMENDS" and "N.Y. YANKEES" to the
right.
Bellow the die cut reads, "the Original and Only WIFFLE BALL"
The bottom flap at, and below the fold
from left to right reads, "Curve it!"
to the left of an illustarted Batter
hitting a ball with a yellow star
background, and to the right reads "Bat
It" centered is a Wiffle ball that
reads "REGULATION BASEBALL" The far
right reads "FREE BASEBALL DISCS WITH
THE PURCHASE OF ORIGINAL WIFFLE BALLS"
pictured below is a Joe Morgan player
disc.
The front of the box is nearly identical with minor variations. Below the
"WIFFLE BALL REGULATION BASEBALL SIZE"
reads "COLLECT AND TRADE YOUR FAVORITE
MAJOR LEAGUERS 88 PLAYERS AVAILABLE" to
the right pictures a Jim Rice player
disc. The right panel of the box with
the same information pictures a Greg
Luzinski player disc, the left panel
Tom Seaver.
The back of the box reads: A tough
rubbery plastic ball light in weight
design to take the place of baseball in
confined areas. primarily an outdoor
ball also good indoors. will not damage
property. Its easy to throw curves with
WIFFLE BALL the Wiffle ball Inc.
