NOTES:

The Big League Game of Baseball was VOL. 533 of the E.S. Lowe Co. line of Bookshelf games. While working as a traveling toy salesman in 1929, E.S. Lowe encountered a group at a Georgia carnival engaged in a game called Beano. Seeing an opportunity to market the game, Lowe developed the game and renamed it Bingo. He then established the E. S. Lowe Company for the production of his Bingo game cards. His company produced bingo games and materials in addition to plastic toys and the dice game Yahtzee.

The E. S. Lowe Co. produced other bookshelf games which included miniature chess and checker game sets. Small enough to mail, carry and store, customers were encouraged to send the games overseas which circulated widely among U.S. service personnel in World War II. Milton Bradley purchased E. S. Lowe Company in 1973.

The Big League Game of Baseball includes; 10 wooden pegs, 3 dice, instructions and score sheets. The tiny wood pegs and dice are stored in a sliding tray inside the thick wooden field. The plays in this pocket-size game are the same as in real "Big League" Baseball. Play starts by the "Picher" rolling one dice, then followed by the "batter" rolling two additional dice. The sum total of all three dice indicates the "play" shown on the "Schedule of Plays." The pegs are used as base runners, and to register Balls, Strikes, Outs, and Runs for each half of an inning. When the inning ends it is transferred to the score sheet.
