During the early 1950s, Frank Tatar
and his wife, along with their son and
daughter began to build several
different types of toys in the attic of
their home in Buffalo, NY. The venture
became so successful that the family
had to expand to a larger facility.
In 1957 Frank Tatar President
of Comon-Tatar, Inc., built a
Plastics assembly plant, on
Electric Avenue, in Blasdell, New York.
The plastic toys they produced included
those famous dexterity "Mini-Ball"
puzzles, plastic peg games, spell'N'puzzle sets, tic-tac-toe games,
and other small plastic items.
In the next 20 years, Frank Tatar would successfully invent and patent
over 40 different toys for children and
Young adults. In 1970 Frank Tatar filed
a patent for Puzzle postcards. The same
format was used to construct this Item
#22, Mail-A-Toy, plastic baseball
player figurines, which are housed in a
blister pack, mounted on the back of an
over-sized postcard. The figurines are
meant to be glued on bottle caps to
make trophies. "Fun For Everyone" The
plastic Batter, fielder, and catcher,
figurines come in three basic colors
Red, Green, and Yellow.
The back of the blister pack card features a standard format postcard,
centered by a manufacturer, credit line
that reads: "MAIL-A-TOY Conon-Tatar
Inc., Blasdell, NY. 14219," and a
"Place a Stamp here" box in the right
upper corner. At the top reads "L59,
Patent Pending, Mae In U.S.A." A fire
in 1979 destroyed most of the rear
structure of the plant, and all of the
toy making equipment. Mr. Tatar got out
of the toy manufacturing business and
started up the Windfall Energy
Corporation, the maker of a
revolutionary new power windmill.
