NOTES:

Mickey Mantle's Remote Control, Automatic Mechanical, Switch Hitter, Indoor and Outdoor, Batting Practice Set, was Made by the Irwin Corporation of New York. The large 16 inch by 12 1/2 inch, white, red, and green box came with an illustration of Mickey Mantle on the top right part of the die-cut section of the cover. Inside the heavy corrugated cardboard box, and also illustrated on the lower left of the cover, was the 12 inch high, red pitching machine, that featured a "Mickey Mantle Switch Hitter" baseball logo. The set also included 3 plastic baseballs, pneumatic tubing attached to "The Pitcher" with a rubber bulb at the end, used to step on to activate the pitcher.

The set came with simple illustrated instructions. To load the pitcher: "First pull down the lever at the side until it locks at the bottom. Then load the three balls into the top hopper. One will fall into the bottom hopper. The other two remain at the top - they will drop down into the pitching position after the lever is reset for the next pitch." To Pitch: Stretch out the tubing and do not press the rubber bulb before you are ready for the pitch. Take up your batting position facing the pitcher with the rubber bulb within reach of your forward foot. When you are ready for the pitch press the bulb sharply."

The instructions also had an Important note, stating: "Always take particular care not to puncture the rubber tubing or the bulb release as this will exhaust the air pressure necessary to operate the Pitcher." These sets often surface in today's collectors market with the rubber bulb, dried out and hardened from age. Some with the rubber melted from being stored in a hot area, such as a heating source, or attic. The instructions  had the warranty, that in the event of damage the unit Irwin would make the necessary repairs for the sun of $2.00 plus postage.
