These brightly colored two-tone plastic
miniature telescope viewers, feature
the 1946-1966 Exhibit Supply Co.
baseball cards. The telescope that
measures slightly more than one inch
has a lens at one end, with a white
light gathering screen at the other.
When held towards a bright light you
could view noted baseball players that
include; Mickey Mantle, Warren Spahn,
Chico Carrasque, Ted Kluszewski , Yogi
Berra, Eddie Mathews, Gus Triandos, Joe
Adcock, Luis Aparicio, Nelson Fox, Don Drysdale, Whitey Ford, Harvey Kuenn,
Roy Sievers, Elston Howard, and Willie
Mays, as pictured on their Exhibit
Supply baseball card.
The novelty mini-telescopes were manufactured by all of the 5 major charm
manufactures which included; Samuel Eppy
& Co., Penny King Co., Karl Guggenheim
Inc., and Plastic Processes Inc. The
Samuel Eppy company specialized in
"Wild West" telescope viewers, and
others telescopes included pin-up
girls, or Hollywood movie stars. Some
companies also offered the mini
telescopes unassembled so you could add
your own pictures.
Plastic Processes Inc. of Freeport, NY, made a couple of trading card
series themed viewers. A viewer
released in 1961 featured cards that
were vended with lenticular lenses,
which when placed over the cards and
manipulated, simulate action. As
reported in a 1960 Billboard magazine,
Plastic Processes introduced a
multicolored baseball picture viewer,
patterned after a miniature telescope.
The telescope was also offered with a
key chain, and each showing different
player poses. Priced $10. per 1,000.
The mini plastic telescopes were
imported from Hong Kong, assembled by
Plastic Processes Inc. and were used for arcade
vending machine prizes. Sales
display cards for capsule machines were
also produced.
