From 1963 to about 1967,
Colgate-Palmolive of New York and the
Purex Corporation put out more than 100
varieties of the 9- to 12-inch Soaky
toys. The colorful, economically
designed plastic toys came in a die-cut
cardboard display box with oval
openings on the front and sides. The
heads of the Soakys popped off to
reveal a cap protecting 11 ounces of
bubble-bath solution.
The first Soakys issued in 1963: Alvin, Theodore and Simon the Chipmunks,
Bugs Bunny, Bullwinkle, Casper, scary
Creatures, Frankenstein, the Mummy, the
Wolf Man, Deputy Dawg, Dick Tracy,
Felix the Cat, Mighty Mouse, Musky
Muskrat, Pinocchio, Porky Pig, Rocky
the Flying Squirrel, Santa Claus,
Sylvester the Cat, Tweety Bird, Woody
Woodpecker and Mr. Magoo.
In 1965, the Beatles Paul McCartney, and Ringo Star were issued; Superman,
Batman & Robin in 1966. Other Soaky Toy
characters issued include: Atom Ant,
Baba Louie, Bozo, Cecil, Cinderella,
Donald Duck, Dopey, Fred and Pebbles
Flintstone, Dino, Barney and Bamm-Bamm
Rubble, Goofy, Huckleberry Hound,
Mickey Mouse, Popeye, Rudolph, Snow
White, Top Cat and Yogi Bear.
Mr. Magoo was available in
a White and red or blue baseball uniform, with a
baseball at it's base. The back has
"Direction: Pour two caps for each bath
directly under running water. Mix well
before placing child in tub. Make sure
bottle is empty and rinsed before
giving to child as toy" - Under the
