NOTES:

On September 20, 1961 New York's Roger Maris hits home run number 59 off Orioles pitcher Milt Pappas in the 154th game of the season. American League owners extended the season from 154 games to 162 games in 1961. Commissioner Ford Frick ruled that Roger Maris would need to break Babe Ruth's 60-home run record in 154 games to officially be recognized as the new record holder. Ruth's Record was safe.

To commemorate the 59th home run hit by Roger Maris, the J.B. Williams Company offered this unique 11"x16" drawing of Roger Maris by famous sports artist Robert Riger. A $2.00 value only 25¢ (in coin) with a box top from Aqua Velva or Williams Lectric Shave. This handsome lithograph reproduction of Roger Maris in action is printed on fine parchment paper.

The bottom center below the drawing reads "Rodger Maris, The N.Y. Yankee rightfielder hits his 59th home run at Baltimore, September 20, 1961" Bottom right corner reads "Copyright 1961 J.B. Williams Company, Inc."

The Special Offer was made available through a mail order coupon in 8.5 by 11 inch advertisements featured in the October 2, 1961 issue of Sports Illustrated, and a 5"x7" ad in the Oct. 7, 1961 TV guide.
