Founded in 1951, the Babe Ruth League
is an international youth baseball and
softball league based in Hamilton, New
Jersey, named after George Herman
"Babe" Ruth. Each year since 1952,
teams compete in a tournament to play
in the Babe Ruth World Series. Baseball
Hall of Fame inductees who played in
the Babe Ruth League include: Carl
Yastrzemski, Joe Morgan, Jim Palmer,
Rod Carew, George Brett, Nolan Ryan,
Cal Ripken Jr., Frank Thomas, Randy
Johnson, John Smoltz, and Mike Piazza.
This matchbook advertises 1964 Babe Ruth League World Series tickets
available for $10.00. The 1964 Babe
Ruth League World Series, was played
from Aug. 22 through 29 in Woodland,
California. The reserved seat tickets
were for all 18 games scheduled during
the seven-day series. Purchase of a $10
reserved seat ticket for the entire
series guarantees the same seat for
each game plus free admission to a
special welcoming barbecue for the Babe
Ruth championship teams on Friday, Aug.
21, at the Yolo County fairgrounds.
Eight championship Babe Ruth teams from all parts of the United States and
Puerto Rico competed for the world
championship. In order to meet the
anticipated spectator demand, 4,000
special reserves seats bleachers were
constructed along first and third lines
and behind home base in Clark Field,
and additional general admission
grandstand bleachers to accommodate
another 5000. The previous four years,
the Babe Ruth World Series was held in
cities of comparable size to Woodland.
In 1963, Farmington, NM, hosted the
series which' saw a total count of
54,000 paid admissions through the
gates for the seven-day series.
