This
advertising placemat was produced by McCurdy, Nelason, & Associates, Inc., for the
Dugout Diner. Located at 742 S.W. Bayshore Blvd., the dinner sits about
1,500 feet from the gateway to the New
York Mets minor league complex in Port
St. Lucie, Florida. The St. Lucie Mets,
a single-A affiliate of the New York
Mets were members of the Florida State
League, founded in 1988.
The waitresses all wore New York Mets Shirts in the diner, decked out in
Mets baseball cards, autographed
posters, old advertisements featuring
former baseball greats, and authentic
Mets banners hanging from the ceiling.
An umbrella in the shape and colors of
a Mets cap shaded the cashier's desk.
The dinner serves up such homemade
dishes as the "morning lineup," "three
Bagger," "grand Slam," and Center
fielder."
Placemats such as these were used by restaurants to keep their patrons
entertained, educated, and amused while
they were waiting for their meals to be
served. They were meant to be used once
and discarded, but this one encourages
patrons to "Take This Placemat Home !!"
It features the 1988 St. Lucie Mets
regular season baseball schedule, and
the New York Mets Spring training
schedule.
Other local
advertisers on this placemat
include: Bob's Baseball Cards; Audrons,
authorized flag dealer, Sun Shield
window tinting; and Esco Communications
- mobile
radios, car telephones, beepers
and portables.
