NOTES:

The Columbia Baking Company makers of Champ Bread, was established in 1903 as the F.O. Stone Baking Co. After the Great Atlanta Fire of 1917 burned the building down the plant was rebuilt in 1924 and renamed Southern Baking Co. It was reorganized again in 1928 and the name was changed to Columbia Baking Company. By 1956, the Columbia Baking Company owned and operated eighteen modern bread and cake plants serving approximately 36,000 food retailers and restaurants throughout an eight - state area in the southeast.

At the height of the company's expansion in 1956, Colombia began a campaign, adverting the company's Sothern bread and cake products. 'Champ' Enriched White Bread made it's debut that year, marketed in key cities of Florida's West Coast. The 'Champ' for Champions ad campaign was kicked off at Yankee Stadium, with Mickey Mantle receiving the first loaf of new Champ bread from A. Geilfuss, president of the Columbia Baking Co.

Twelve of the nations top athletes endorsed the new Champ bread: Florence Chadwick; Pancho Gonzales; Maureen Connolly; Choo Choo Justice; Zoe Ann Olsen; Barbara Ann Scott; Patty Berg; Jimmy Demaret; baseball players - Johnny Antonelli; Duke Snider; Yogi Berra, and Mickey Mantle. 1956 Florida Newspaper ads featured a large ad identical to the flyer and each athlete was also feature in smaller ad seperatly.

The outside of the folded mailer featured segments. The back half quoted "what sports champions say about Champ bread." The other half is folded into quarters with one picturing Mickey Mantle.
