NOTES:

In 1959 the 1st Federal Savings and Loan Association of Washington D.C., issued a set of 20, baseball series advertising matchbooks named "Famous Senators." During the same time the bank issued a 1958-59 Washington Redskins football series, set of 20 matchbooks. The baseball series feature "famous Senators" of the 20th century. The back of the matchbook has a Black and white player portrait photo, with the (years) associated with the team, to the left, the Washington Senators team logo above, with "Famous Players" to the right.

The section between the front and back, called the saddle, reads "1st Federal Savings." The advertisement on the front reads: "Makes a hit with "Washigtonians" to the right of a baseball that reads; "Savings." Below the ball reads; "A 4 Bagger! Dividends 4 Times a Year" with an illustration of the number "1" character wearing a Washington baseball cap hitting a ball. The banks address is at the bottom; "1st Federal Savings and Loan Association, 610-13th Street, N.W. * Washington S, D.C."

On the inside, the "1st Federal Savings and Loans presents" the "Name" of the Player pictured on the front, "Position" and a tidbit about the player such as lifetime batting average or when elected to the Hall of Fame, followed by "This is One of Twenty." Starting from the inside saddle reads; Famous Senators presented for you by your, 1st Federal Savings and Loans Association of Washington, Bethesda Branch, 8216 Wisconsin Ave., Rethesda 14, Md. When the Franchise moved to Minnesota the same format was used for the 1961 F&M Bank Minnesota Twins matchbook set.
