Strikin' It Rich Enterprises of
Oxnard, California, issued these Major
League Baseball "Official Baseball
Caps" adverting matchbooks sometime
after 1977 through 1989. The earlier
matchbook (above) had a "Limited Offer"
of $4.95 for the caps, the later
(below) $6.95. The front of the earlier
matchbook features the official Major
League Baseball logo, the later reads
"Special Offer" in the same spot. The
back of both matchbooks pictures a New
York Yankees, and Los Angele Dodgers
cap, which reads "All Teams Available"
at the top, "Order your Favorite Teams
Cap Today" below, just above the
"Reverse striker."
"Reverse Striker" refers to a cover which has the striker on the back
panel rather than the top flap. The
design change came in 1973, when all
matchbooks were federally mandated to
have the strikers put on the back
panel, for safety. Thus, the industry
changed from "Front-Strikers" to
"Reverse-Strikers." The matchbook
saddle (the portion of a cover between
the two central folds, dividing the
front and back panels) has toll free
(800) phone numbers, for credit card
orders for California, and outside the
state.
The inside of the covers have the mail in order form for the baseball
caps, available for all 26 Major League
teams. Catalog of posters, caps,
t-shirts, movie memorabilia, sports
items, and novelties were made
available upon request.
