From
1961 to 1964 Rawlings issued 33
pictures of star ballplayers which were
inserted into glove boxes of the
respective player. From
1964 to about 1966 Rawlings
issued an additional 11 pictures, five
new players, and six repeat players;
Ken Boyer, Tommy Davis, Dick Groat,
Mickey Mantle, Brooks Robison and
Warren Spahn, but with different poses.
In 1964 Rawligs introduced "The Big 8" baseball glove, designed with 8 Big
fielding features: Double X-Web,
Flex-O-Matic Palm, "Deep Well" Pocket,
X-Laced Fingers, L-Heel, Extended
Finger Stalls, Shearling lined
Comfo-Loc Wrist Strap, and Select Grade
RT58 Leather.
The Big 8 line of
baseball gloves were endorsed by eight
players. Mickey Mantle, Ken Boyer, Waren Spahn, Tom Tresh, Tommy Davis,
Billy Williams, Dick Graot, and Brooks
Robinson. The glove box featured
cropped pictures of the eight
ballplayers, and came with a package of
eight full color 8x10s premium
pictures. The Pictures on the box were
often cut out and saved as baseball
cards.
The 10.5 by 13.5 inch 1964 Boy's Life advertisement, pictures the 8
Rawlings advisory staff players that
are pictured on the box. The ad also
points out the Big 8 baseball glove
fielding features.
