NOTES:

On February 23, 1910, the Philadelphia Sporting Writers Association held their annual dinner at the Hotel Majestic. Their guests of honor was owner/president of the Philadelphia Phillies, Horace Fogel, and Charles Dooin who was formally introduced as manager. Fogel was also a member of the Sporting Writers Association, and as owner, he was banned in 1912 for publicly asserting that the umpires favored the New York Giants and were making unfair calls against his team. Charles "Red" Dooin was a catcher for the Phillies from 1904-1910 and was named manager in 1910 while he was still playing.

Nearly 400 "fans," players, umpires, politicians, and invited guests were seated around the festive board. As the guest entered the Banquet hall they were greeted by a large electric sign which read, "What's Fogel Dooin?" Everyone attending was presented with a baseball cap to wear for the occasion, while the usual glove and ball souvenir was to be found at each plate.

The mini ball, glove and box all have the Reach Trade Mark on them. The ball is 2" diameter, the glove is about 4" by 4" by 1", and the box is 4 1/4" by 4 1/2" by 2 3/4".
