1977-1986 Rawlings Official National League
Baseball
|
|
NOTES: |
In 1977 Rawlings
becomes the official manufacturer of Major League
baseballs. The 1977-1986 Charles Feeney
Rawlings baseballs can be dated by a dot system that is
located below the word "Haiti" (where the baseballs are
made) and the Rawlings logo on the north panel. The
sweetspot basically remains the same but with changes to
the size of the stamping, and a different Charles Feeney
signature.
In 1980 the "word" Haiti is moved
to the center of "Rawlings" and in 1982 it is moved back
to the right. Starting in 1981 the printing on the ball is
sharper and and this can be used to distinguish the
difference between the 2 & 3 dot baseballs made in 1977 &
1978, and the 2 & 3 dot baseballs made in 1982 & 1983 (see
samples below). The south panel
feature "The Cushioned Cork Center" Stamp and centered
below is "RO-N" (Rawlings Official-National)
