In 1898, the English Sewing Company of England purchases the Willimantic
Linen Company and other New England
mills and formed the American Thread
Company. The company developed and
produced thousands of thread products
such as for clothing, bedding, shoe
laces, and stitching for sewing
baseballs. Kingston cotton baseball
thread was made at the Jillson Mills
complex in Willimantic, Connecticut.The
Willimantic mill was closed when the
company moved to North Carolina in
1985.
This wooden spool was
manufactured by the company in Milo,
Maine. One side is stamped "Made by The American
Thread Company" while the other is
stamped with "Kingston 10 5 4oz.
Baseball Thread."
