October 8, 1956, Game 5 of the 1956
World Series, Don Larsen of the New
York Yankees pitched a perfect game
against the Brooklyn Dodgers at Yankee
Stadium. The only one in the history of
the World Series. The following years
Don Larsen products and merchandise hit
the market. The Worth-Lannom
manufacturing company produced a series
of "Don Larsen Autographed" baseballs.
One labeled "Series Special" League
Baseball No. 951, and this Don Larsen
"Autographed" No. 982 Major League
Baseball. Another Major League 982
baseball was sold without the Don Larsen
facsimile Autographed stamping, and had
the "Official
Trade Mark" generic Worth-Lannom
logo at the top.
The Don Larsen "Autographed" No. 982 Major League Baseball was also sold
in boxes for .98¢. Some were wrapped in
cellophane and sold loose in retail
vending display boxes. The "Regulation
hand stitched" baseball has an Alum
Tanned Leather cover, and was made in
Jamaica. The ball hit the market around
1960.
