NOTES:

Founded in 1893 by George Young, Geo. Young & Co. with a plant located at 715 South Western Avenue in Chicago, manufactured baseball and softballs. During the early 1900s, to though the 1930s, Young employed about 40 to 50 women to sew baseballs at home. In 1925 a 24 year old Albert E. Fegan, employed by Geo. Young at a young age, was granted a patent for an indoor baseball. The indoor baseballs made at this time were too heavy, and his invention lightened the ball’s core to ensure a truer flight.

Around 1925 Fegan's Geo. Young 16 inch softball was officially adopted by the Windy City Softball League. Fegan, promoted to manager of the Geo. Young Co., was also granted a patent in 1931. His "Concealed stitch" invention, a method to secure the cover on baseballs and softballs is believed to be the precursor to the "Clincher" design made famous by J. deBeer & son.

This concealed stitch No C16 Official Geo. Young & Co., Windy City 16 inch softball features the "Best Quality Always - Young - Chicago" trademark logo at the top, and reads "100% pure Kapok - Thermatex treated" on the bottom specs panel.

In 1952, Albert became president of the George Young Company. Later he opened a branch in Puerto Rico, and eventually moved production to Haiti. In 1962, he reopened a branch in Milwaukee but continued to manufacture softball in Haiti. George Young Company became Lincoln Diversified, a company founded by Albert’s son, Albert Jr. It was located in Elmhurst, Illinois but moved to Florida.
