In a 2000 Nabisco promotion, participants that entered the Oreo Stacking Contest could win a trip to the 2000 World Series, Meet Derek Jeter or Ken Griffey Jr. at the National Finals, a $20,000 U.S. Savings Bond, and "Other Cool Prizes." Every child who participates in stacking received two collectible Fleer-Oreo baseball trading cards. Derek Jeter, and Ken Griffey Jr. More than 30,000 local store winners (one winner per age category/per store) received a Certificate of Merit and an official Rawlings Oreo Major League baseball.

The sweet-spot on one side of the official size baseball is stamped; "Oreo Official Cookie Of Major League Baseball®" the other sweet-spot has the Rawlings logo, with "MLBP 2000" on the lower left. One panel reads "Oreo Stacking Contest 2000!" the other has the "Major League Baseball®"  Logo

Children 5 to 12 years of age competed in one of two categories: 5 to 8-years-old and 9 to 12-years-old. Regional competitions at Major League baseball stadiums determined the finalists who represented their region - North, South, West and Central. The parks included Turner field, home of the Braves; Dodger Stadium, home to the LA Dodgers; Cub's Wrigley Field; and Philly's hometown Veterans Stadium.

The top two stackers in each age category that emerge victorious from each region advanced to the national finals where they competed for the title of Oreo stacking champion. The national finals were held at the site of game two or game three of the Major League Baseball's 2000 World Series.

The grand prize winner in each age category, the one who can vertically stack the most Oreo cookies in 30 seconds - without using any props, glue or other adhesives and without having the stack fall over. The stack needed to remain standing for three seconds after the 30-second limit. The grand prize was a $20,000 U.S. savings bond, two season tickets to their local Major League baseball team and a year's supply of Oreo cookies.

The promotion was also advertised on packages of Oreo Cookies, with "5 Cool Baseball Shapes" Imprinted on each cookie. A baseball diamond, Batter swinging, baseball glove, batting helmet, and a baseball.

More than 750,000 Children participated in the contest. David Thomas 8 stacked 17 Oreos to win the 6-to-8 year old group, and Ben Montmagny 10 stacked 19 Oreos to win the 9-to-12 year old group.
