Licensed under a Goldsmith Patent No.
1,960,803, the Spalding Official
Concealed Stitch Soft Ball is made over
a center of firmly compressed long
fiber Kapok, which is heavily wound
with high quality yarn. The cover is of
specially tanned leather cemented on
and hand stitched in the concealed
manner. By this method loosening
and stretching are prevented.
Patented
May 29, 1934 by Edward Baumer,
assignor to The P. Goldsmith Sons
Company, Cincinnati, the invention
relates to covered game balls and to a
novel method for securing covers to
game balls with concealed stitching.
The sweet spot on this 12 inch softball
reads; "Official Concealed Stitch Soft
Ball, (Licensed Under Pat 1960803)" sandwiched between "Diamond Ball"
& "Playground Ball" (names used for the
game before Softball became official in
1930) The ball was used by the School
District of Philadelphia, as it is
stamped on the panel, to the right. The
top Panel reads; "Spalding, No. 1123".
The bottom panel features the Spalding
Trademark baseball logo.
