The Benjamin Young Company was a
saddlery company that operated around
1897 to 1918 in Milwaukee Wisconsin. In
1916 the Perkins-Campbell company
purchased Benjamin Young but still
retained the name. Their 1916 wholesale
catalog included; Harnesses, horse
collars, riding saddles, horse clothing
saddlery hardware, leather novelties,
carriage and automobile robes, riding
equipment, and Sporting goods. There
are 20 pages of sporting goods which
includes 12 pages of baseball equipment
using the Benjamin Young brand name.
Young's line of baseball sporting
goods included baseball's, gloves,
catchers mitts, masks, accessories, and
baseball bats. The center brand on this
No. 183 model bat features the "Young's
Cream City Brand" logo, and a
"Regulation" decal on the barrel. Other
Benjamin Young Co. baseball bat models
include; No.s 181, 185,187, and League
Regulation, No. 179, No.s 175, and 177
Boys Models. No.s 195 and 198 Indoor
Bats. The Benjamin Young Co.
catalog No. 189 Louisville Slugger
Decal bats were also offered. (The only
other brand of bats) That and the
decals used on the Benjamin Young
baseball bats are the same used on
Louisville Slugger bats, indicating
that J.F. Hillerich & Son Co.
manufactured the bats for Benjamin
Young.
