Camco. - Cambridge Rubber Company,
manufacturers of casual and waterproof
footwear, was based at 748 Main St.,
Cambridge, Massachusetts. Warren
MacPherson, president founded the
Cambridge Rubber Company in the early
1900's to make rubber coating for
canvas automobile tops. But as
all-metal tops came into fashion, he
converted the business to make
raincoats and canvas shoes. George H.
Rockwell, Co-founder, was named vice
president.
In 1926 and '27 promotions, shoe stores across the country gave away a
Free baseball or bat with every pair of
Camco, Sneex, rubber soled canvas sport
shoes (sneakers). In 1926 one store
gave away a Reach baseball bat, and a
Reach junior baseball, with the Sneex
sport shoes, all for $1.98. The A.H.
Leathers Mfg Co. of Dickson Tennessee
also made "Sneex" branded promotional
bats for the Cambridge Rubber Company
to promote their Camco Sneex All
American Sport Shoe. The Fisher
Brothers in Akron, Ohio, sold the "Very
Special 'Sneex' Baseball Bats worth
.65¢ limit 1.... 5¢"
