Founded by John P. Adriance in 1845,
the hardware company conducted business
under a number of firm names through
the years: John P. Adriance;
Dennis & Varick; Varick, Storm & Co.;
John B. Varick & Co.; John B. Varick;
and finally, John B Verick Co. from
1884 to 1938. The John B. Varick
Building and Hardware Store, was
located at 809-813 Elm Street,
Manchester, NH. It was New England's
largest hardware business.
The Hardware company carried a large variety of merchandise which included:
Agricultural tools and machinery;
Automobiles and automotive equipment;
Clothing; Cutlery; Electrical; Farm
equipment and supplies; Furniture, and
furnishings; Hardware; paint, hand
tools; Jewelry and Sporting goods.
There are two different baseball bat center brands. One, that simply reads
"Varick" The other; an oval that reads
"The Varick Bat" in the center, with
"John B. Varick Co." at the top, and
"Manchester, N.H." at the bottom. Below
the oval is the model "No. 1"
