McKinnon "The Kind You've Always
Wanted" trademark baseball bats were
made by the McKinnon Leather Products
Corp. founded in 1876 McKinnon Dash
Co., manufactured dashboards for horse
drawn buggies and carriages. Their
metal framed dashboards were covered by
stretched leather, to provide
protection from the horses kicking up
mud and dust into the passenger area.
McKinnon Dash (Dashboards) also
manufactured other products such as
bicycles, canvas goods and welded
chain. In 1927, the McKinnon Dash Co.
purchased Bon Tober Sporting Goods, a
manufacture of baseball gloves and
balls. After 1930, McKinnon Leather
Product Corp. began
producing a complete line of leather
sporting goods, under the "McKinnon"
brand name.
Their catalog included baseball gloves, bats, and balls. Most were youth
and juvenile sports equipment, sold in
toy, drug, and discount stores. Most of
the smaller bats that measure about 22
inches were sold in juvenile baseball
sets. In the 1960's McKinnon Leather
Products Corp. Issued a line of "Small
Fry" baseball equipment. These bats did
not have the McKinnon "The Kind You've
Always Wanted" trademark logo, but did
read "Small Fry" on the barrel.
