The Rollin Wilson Toy Co. was founded
by Rollin V. Wilson in 1929 at 1213
Empire Avenue, Memphis Tennessee.
Wilson, was once an efficiency expert
at lumber mills. He noticed that the
mills produced a lot of waste lumber,
and came up with an idea of converting
it into toys. Rollin Wilson Co. was a
unique operation and a pioneer in its
field. It manufactures toy bow and
arrow sets, mounted on display cards:
baseball and golf sets, and other toy,
merchandise sold primarily to the
Woolworth, Kress and other variety
store chains.
The Sport toys manufacturer started the business, using hickory, persimmon and
gum, in the making of small bows and
arrows; tennis, badminton equipment,
and small wooden novelty toys. Wilson
produced 22.5 inch toy baseball bats
starting in the 1950s. Mickey Mantle
signed on with Rollin Wilson after his
Triple Crown season in 1956.
The Rollin Wilson Co. No. 60 Mickey Mantle signature bat, baseball set was
mounted on a display card and came with
a safety sponge rubber ball. The Rollin
Wilson Midget Model No. 65 baseball
set, is listed in the 1957-1960
catalogs. Other Midget Models including
the No. 75, and 88, were issued in
later years, or sold separately.
