NOTES:

The Stall & Dean Manufacturing Co. in Brockton, Mass. was founded by W.T. Stall and C.H. Dean in 1898. Their product of sporting goods included; Base Ball Suits, Gloves, Mitts, Balls and Bats. The Stall & Dean Biffer baseball bat listed in the 1904 catalog was patented by Absalom Burrows in 1885, and Improvements were made in 1903. The composite baseball bat was made in nine sections from select ash, hickory and rattan (for the handle grip). The Biffer with a light handle, and heavy striking end, was designed to make the bat stronger, more flexible, without stinging the players hands.

The 1904 catalog also features testimonial of approval, from Honus Wagner. Also listed is the No. 31 S.&D. League, No. 33 S.&D Collegiate, and No. 35 S.&D. Amateur. The Stall and Dean Biffer Composite bat was short lived, and quickly replaced by the no. 1 "Professional," but the "Autograph Biffer" line of baseball bats were brought back, by 1914, and turned from a single select second growth ash billit.

The colorful decal reads "BIFFER BAT" across the top, and "CHICAGO - BROCKTON" towards the bottom with the Stall and Dean Trademark logo in the center.
