W.O. Nannen
& Sons of Ellicottville, NY, was a company owned and operated
by William O. Nannen, which specialized in hardwood products
such as Bowling Pins, and wooden
handles.
The Plant in East Smethport,
Pennsylvania produced 600,000 baseball
bat billets a year for Hillerich & Bradsby
Co. of Louisville, KY, starting in
1946. Hillerich & Bradsby bought
the plant in 1964.
The full size, "Trademark, W.O. Nannen & Sons, "Top Line Bats"
Ellicottville, NY, Registered" baseball
bats were never marketed. The focus was
on producing billets for Louisville
Slugger.
The souvenir bats were a short-term
failed endeavor. A Sales
card attached to a plastic bag which
housed the souvenirs read "This
Miniature Bat Is Made From The Same
High Grade Northern Ash, As It's Bigger
Brothers Used By The Professionals."
