Designated W560, by the American Card
Catalog, as a 1927 issue, the set was
produced on four different 16-subject
uncut 7" x 11" sheets. The 1-3/4” by
2-3/4” blank back hand cut cards have a
playing-card design. Diamond & Heart
suited cards are printed on two sheets in
red ink, 6 Jokers, and 26 playing cards
featuring aviators, and athletes.
Eighteen baseball cards (1 joker).
Spade & Club suited cards are printed
on two sheets in black ink, with all 32
cards featuring baseball players, 26
playing cards, 6 jokers. Key
cards in the set include Jim Foxx
(Joker), Lou Gehrig (3 of Clubs), Lefty
Grove (King of Clubs) Walter Johnson (2
of Spades) and Babe Ruth (Joker).
Printed in error -
Micky* [sic] Mickey
Cochrane. Although this set is cataloged
as a 1927 issue, Les Bell did
not play for the Boston Braves, as
listed on his card, until 1928. Fred
Maguire pictured with a NY Giants cap,
did not play for the Boston Braves, as
listed on his card, until 1929. Sam
Gray did not play for the St. Louis
Browns, as listed on his card, until
1928. Vic Aldridge's last year in the
major Leagues was 1928, and played in
the minors until 1931. These
and other discrepancies loosely
dates the W560 set to a 1929 issue.
