The 1952 Coca-Cola Baseball Tips carton inserts was
a regional issue to
the New York area. This 10 card set features artwork of
9 New York ballplayers, one for each
position, and one hitter card. The set
is represented by three New York Yankee,
three New York Giant, and three
Brooklyn Dodger players. The front
headers display the
artwork depicting the players, with the
slogan "Coke is a Natural," the players
name, team, and position. The lower
insert portion features the 1952 home
schedule for the player's team.
The backs have "How To Be A Good" tips for the position of the player
depicted on the front, followed by "A
Few Big-League Tips to Remember." The
10th card is is a double of the
Bobby Thomson 3rd base
insert but with "How To Be A Good
Hitter." The irregularly shaped
carton insert baseball cards measure
about 3.5" at the widest point, and
7.5" in length.
A four card test issue
previous to this set consist of 3 Phil Rizzuto cards with three different back
variations; How to Play Shortstop, How
to make a Squeeze Play, and Coca-Cola
Baseball Tips... Pitching. These cards
differ in design, depicting Rizzuto
drinking a Coke, and do not have a team
schedule. The fourth card, Willie Mays,
is done in the same design as the
Coca-Cola Baseball Tips insert cards,
but with a biography on the back.
