Sports Heroes Stickers

These red, white and blue stickers were part of a 1965 promotion for the "High Point Chamber of Commerce Night" held at Finch Field, home to the High Point-Thomasville Hi-Toms baseball team. The Hi-Toms were a Class A affiliate of the Minnesota Twins, in the Western Carolinas League. The Hunter Publishing Co., of Winston-Salem, N.C. donated 4,000 sticker sets to the club for use in connection with the game. Every youngster that passed through the gates, accompanied by an adult received a set as a gift. The reported attendance for the game was 4,021. Additional stickers were made available as the sticker card reads "ask at the concession stand for more players."

Four "Sports Heroes" stickers, featuring blue-tone or black & white picture portraits of Major League players of the same team were attached to a cardboard sheet. The "Favorite Player Monograms" were made to be applied to any porous surface such as a shirt, coat, sweater, cap, etc...and can be reapplied several times. They can also be applied to non-porous surfaces such as an auto windshield, school notebook, wood surface, etc... permanently.

Team sets for the San Francisco Giants, Detroit Tigers, Pittsburgh Pirates, New York Yankees, and St. Louis cardinals have surfaced into the hobby. The Players listed for the unnumbered stickers have been listed in alphabetical in the checklist. More players will be added as they surface.
