On July
20, 2012, in Cooperstown N.Y., the United States Post Office
issued four 45¢ First-Class Forever,
Major League Baseball All-Stars
commemorative stamps saluting the
accomplishments of; Ted Williams(Scott
#4694), Larry Doby(Scott #4695), Willie Stargell(Scott
#4696), and Joe
DiMaggio(Scott #4697). Illustrator Kadir Nelson
based the stamp art on historic
photographs of the four players. Art
director Phil Jordan designed the
stamps. A total of 20,000,000 stamps of
each of the 4 players were issued.
The First Day Cover pictured above is
hand painted, signed and numbered by
sports cachet artist Kendal Bevil,
18/150. It depicts Ted Williams and his
Postage stamped with the official Major
League Baseball All-Stars, Boston MA
02205 post office cancelation. Artist
Kendal Bevil, is one of the most
popular cachet makers, producing
first-day covers since 1989.
