"Casey at the Bat" is a poem
written in 1888 by Ernest L. Thayer. A
dramatic narrative about a baseball
game, the poem became popular on the
vaudeville circuit, and has become one
of the best-known poems in American
literature. As the popularity of the
poem grew, so did the commercial use.
This postcard features an embossed
design of Casey at the Bat, which is a
reason why most that hit the collectors
market, show wear on the raised design.
These "Casey At The Bat" postcards,
were issued circa 1908, around the time
De Wolf Hopper's recorded version of
the poem was released on Victor
records. Hopper Popularized the poem
performing it on stage 10,000+ times
since 1888.
