Multiple-image cards replay Mantle's
500th home run With a gentle turn of
the wrist. "The first ever full motion
baseball card." Eastman Kodak Co. of
Rochester embedded 24 images on a
3-by-5-inch collectible card that
recaptures Mantle hitting his 500th
home run. Three to four seconds of
apparent real-time motion on the card.
The color picture sequence begins with
Stu Miller's pitch. Tilt the card a bit
and "the Mick" is connecting and
driving the baseball high over the
mound. A little more rotation and the
fans are leaping to their feet as the
ball sails into the right-field stands,
lifting the New York Yankees to a 6-5
win over the Baltimore Orioles.
"The day is May 14, 1967. The Yankees are playing the Orioles in
Yankee Stadium. On that day, Mickey
Mantle will make history. Mickey is
batting left-handed against the Orioles
pitcher, Stu Miller. The bases are
empty. The count is 3-2. Miller
releases the ball. Mickey smashes the
pitch into the right field stands and
with that Home Run he joins the most
prestigious Home Run Club with the
500th Home Run of his career.
To commemorate that historic event. Kodak has created the first Dynamic
Image "Legends" Baseball Card. Kodak
revolutionary new technology enables
you to actually hold a moment of
History in your hands, and watch the
images move. On one card, the pitch is
thrown... Mickey Mantle swings... and
his 500th Home Run lands in the right
field stands of Yankee Stadium."
The 3"x5" Mantle Motion Card was made
available at the issue price of $29.95
plus $3.00 P&H. Each Card came in a
deluxe 8"x10" presentation holder with
two individually numbered matched
numbered certificates of authenticity.
One from Mickey Mantle Properties and
one signed by George Frisher, the Chief
Executive Officer of Kodak. The back of
the presentation holder lists firsts on
the card issue, and Mickey Mantle
career statistics.
The first frames of motion feature the MLB, Kodak (Made By Kodak) logo's,
and a Mickey Mantle Facsimile Autograph
at the bottom.
