2004 ALDS Game-used Base from Game 1
of the New York Yankees Minnesota Twins
Series. This was third base for this
game. The sides of the base features
four, 1-1/4 x 2-1/4 inch inlaid Logo
plaques, two Official MLB logos
opposite of one another, and two orange
American League Division Series 2004
Official logo on the other two sides. The underside is noted "ALDS 3rd
base," and which side faces the foul
pole. The top of the base has engraved
Hollywood Bases Schutt Sports, Jack
Corbett, and the MLB Logo. (and some
great Yankee Stadium Dirt) The
underside
of this base also has a MLB Hologram to
authenticate it.
In 1944, John "Jack" P. Corbett, patented the Jack Corbett Hollywood Bases.
The object of the invention was to
provide a baseball base which instead
of being in the form of a cushion
stuffed with padding; comprise a rigid
base covered with a layer of cushioning
material, and provide a means for
anchoring the base with great accuracy
in the position with respect to the
base lines of a baseball diamond
required by the rules, and with such
security as to eliminate all danger of
its becoming dislodged from that
position during the course of a game.
MLB started using Jack Corbett's bases in 1940, and
continues to use them to this day. Jack Corbert Hollywood
bases are now produced by Schutt Sports,
after the company acquired the rights
to the bases in 1996. The original 1996
Schutt "Jack Corbett Hollywood bases"
logo was changed in
2009, and is still used today.
