Jimmy Piersall's Little Pro Bat-A-Round
baseball training aid was manufactured
by First American Corporation in 1960,
and hit the shelves in 1961. The
batting device was designed to help
Little Leaguers develop a smooth
well-coordinated swing, teach the
strike-zone, or switch hitting skills.
Based on the same principle of the
batting tee used by Branch Rickey for
training major League teams, Little
Pro, takes the place of pitcher,
catcher, and fielder. It enables little
leaguers to practice alone or have fun
with teammates.
The device came in a complete
kit, with a 14 inch long,
indestructible plastic baseball
spinner, a metal stand, hardware, and a
Booklet of tips from batting greats. It
was also endorsed
by Willie Mays and Roger Maris. The
Little Pro complete with adjustable
metal rod was also sold separately. The
Little Pro only, as pictured here
came in a poly bag featuring
endorsements from 1960 American League
batting champion Pete Runnels of the Boston Red
Sox, and National League champion,
League MVP Dick Groat of the Pittsburg Pirates.
The Little Pro baseball spinner could
be mounted to a wood 2x4, which can be
sunk into the ground.
