"Autographed and Recommended" by
Sherman Lollar, Rawlings issued the
Catchers endorsed Leg Guards from about
1947 through to 1962. Lollar a 7 time
All-Star, broke into the Majors with
the Cleveland Indians in 1946, played
for the NY Yankees in 1947-1948, STL
Browns 1949-1951, and the Chicago White
Sox from 1952-1963.
The 1948-1953 no. 5 (pictured above) featured molded and corrugated fibre
protectors. Knee cap well padded.

Leather shock absorber feature.
Adjustable elastic leg straps.
Basically the same design, model No.'s
7 & 7C were sold around 1954-1956.
By 1958, Rawlings used the catalog designation OC, which featured; Heavy
double waterproof fibre. Navy and
orange corrugations. Leather shock
absorbers. Knee cap is fitted with
Aire-Gaurd Vinal backed with White Felt
and flat leather bound. Instep padded
with Leather-Covered Aire-Gaurd Vinyl.
Easy-hook fasteners with longer leg
straps.
In 1961 mildew-proof aerotex was added to the Aire-Gaurd Vinyl padded
knee caps. The 1962 model featured
Armor-Lite Plastic parts and
Cantilevers riveted to corrugated shin
pieces, with metal snap fasteners.
