These were the Official Batting Order
lineup cards from the game played; at
Dodger Stadium on July 28, 1991, when
Montreal Expos pitcher Dennis Martínez
pitched a perfect game against the Los
Angeles Dodgers. The lineup Martínez
faced was filled out on the "Los
Angeles Official Batting Order" card by
manager Tommy Lasorda, and signed at
the bottom. The back features Dodger
Stadium Ground Rules. The Montreal "On
Road" lineup card was filled out, and
signed by Expos manager Tom Runnells.
The blue tint "On Road" lineup cards
are carried with the team when
traveling, and do not have ground rules
on the back.
Batting Order cards are submitted to
the umpire by the manager or coach of
each team before the game when they go
over the ground rules. The umpire keeps
one copy of the lineup card of each
team, and gives the second copy to the
opposing manager. These two carbon copies,
belonged to Tommy Lasorda, where he
made the notation after the game "Lose-2-0 Prefect
Game-" and resigned his name over
the copy on his lineup card. Lasorda also
received the correct "Home Managers
Copy" of the Expos lineup, but usually
little attention is paid
to who receives which copy.
The value for batting order lineup cards will vary based on
age, the lineup for that game, the
signature of the manager on the
original copy, team, stadium, and
accomplishments of noted players for
that game. As with all collectibles condition is important
but the crease caused by folding is normal. In general the value of a
lineup card from a common regular
season game from the 1990's era could start in the
$25.-$50. price range. The significance
of the game, noted players in the
lineup or personal milestones
accomplished will raise the value
accordingly.
