This Official Batting Order
lineup card is from the second game of
a double header played between the
Washington Senators, and the Cleveland
Indians at Cleveland Stadium on August
27, 1933. Harley Boss dates the undated lineup
card to 1933, the only year he played
for the Indians. August 27, the only
game this Lineup was used. Cleveland
Indians manager Walter Johnson filled
out the lineup in black ink, and signed
it in the lower right. The Cleveland
lineup for this game is as follows: Galatzer (RF), Burnett (3B), Averill
(CF), Vosmik (LF), Hale (2B), Boss
(1B), Cissell (SS), Pytlak (C), and
Brown (P). The back features the
"Cleveland Stadium Special Ground
Rules."
Batting Order cards are submitted to
the umpire by the manager or coach of
each team before the game when they go
over the ground rules. The umpire keeps
one copy of the lineup card of each
team, and gives the second copy to the
opposing manager.
The value for batting order
lineup cards will vary based on age,
the lineup for that game, the signature
of the manager on the original copy,
team, stadium, and accomplishments of
noted players for that game. As with
all collectibles condition is important
but the crease caused by folding is
normal. In general the value of a
lineup card from a common regular
season game from the 1930's era could
start in the $200.-$300. price range.
The significance of the game, noted
players in the lineup or personal
milestones accomplished will raise the
value accordingly.
