In 1970, the International House of
Pancakes (IHOP) issued team placemats
representing four of the major sports;
Football, Basketball, Hockey, and
Baseball.
Placemats such as these were used by
restaurants to keep their patrons
entertained, educated, and amused while
they were waiting for their meals to be
served. They were meant to be used once
and discarded. IHOP encouraged their
patrons to "Take This Place Mat To A
Game And Have The Players
Autograph It"
The sixteen
Major League Baseball teams known to be issued
are the; Angels, Astros, Braves,
Brewers, Cardinals, Cubs,
Dodgers, Indians, Mets, Orioles, Padres,
Phillies, Reds, Red Sox, Royals, and Tigers.
Each placemat features the team
insignia, and pictures 15 players
encircles with their name, and a lined
space below for the autograph. The
placemats also promoted IHOPS in "Over
275 Major League Locations from Coast
to Coast," listing International House
of Pancakes Restaurants in that city.
With the exception of the Mets, Orioles and Cubs, The top header read: "A
Great Doubleplay Combination" Known
placemats are listed below,
alphabetically by team.
