NOTES:

Distributed by the De Four Sales co. "The Babe Ruth Clock" was produced by the Abbotwares Co. as a Salesboard premium in 1948. The Abbotwares Co. was famous for creating Bronzeware figural horse radios and other western theme figurines. They produced "Deco" tube radios from 1947-1949 in their plant located in Los Angeles, California. In 1949, the excess Babe Ruth figural Clocks were made available by the De Four Sales Company of Chicago, through a mail order for the price of $25.95.

As stated in the June 1949 issue of The Sporting News: "These magnificent Babe Ruth memento timepieces have been made for a special purpose. THEY ARE NOT FOR SALE IN STORES. But a small production over-run allows us to offer then at manufacturer's cost. This is an unprecedented opportunity to acquire a rare treasure. Write at once. There are very few left." The ad specifies "ONLY 117 LEFT" but the "117" is crossed out and the remaining quantity is changed to 94.

The bronze statuette, electric desk clock features a Pinstriped uniformed bust of Babe Ruth (His name engraved on the front, and the number 3 on the back) is centered atop the clock, flanked by a baseball on each side. The left bronze baseball is engrave with “ONE SEASON 60 HOME RUNS” and the baseball on right is engraved with “LIFETIME 714 HOME RUNS” The bakelite art deco clock is centered with a window showing the Hour, minutes, and seconds, which sits on a wooden base.

The Babe Ruth clock is also found in a much scarcer radio version but they might have been put together by collectors using spare parts from the Babe Ruth figural, and the Abbotwares Co. Horse Radio's.
